🎉 La Tomatina

Buñol, Spain · August 27
Calle del Coz

On the last Wednesday of August each year, the tiny Spanish town of Buñol transforms into the world's most gloriously absurd battlefield as 20,000 people hurl over 100 tonnes of ripe tomatoes at each other through narrow streets slicked red with pulp in a one-hour frenzy of pure, laughing chaos. La Tomatina is the ultimate expression of uninhibited fun — messy, ridiculous, and absolutely unforgettable.

Local Knowledge

Tickets are required and capped at 20,000 — buy through the official website the moment they go on sale (typically spring). The tomato fight lasts exactly one hour starting around 11 AM; trucks dump over 100 tonnes of tomatoes into the narrow street. Wear clothes you will throw away, bring goggles, and remove jewelry. The tomato acid is actually good for skin. Base yourself in Valencia (45 minutes by train) as Buñol has almost no accommodation. The ham-climbing contest that kicks off the fight is the chaotic signal to begin.
